The Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse tower is open and allows you to explore up to the Watch Room at your own pace!
Climb at your own risk! Safety is the number one priority at Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse. Climbing the tower includes a 51-step wrought-iron staircase, navigating through a narrow opening. With that in mind, we have developed a set of guidelines to ensure everyone has an enjoyable and safe experience climbing the tower at Old Mackinac Point.
**MIND YOUR HEAD** Toward the top of the stairway a step is painted yellow. This is your cue to duck your head through the opening to the Watch Room.
– Hands must be kept free at all times. No carrying of belongings or children.
– Due to space limitations, backpacks are not allowed up the tower. They may be stored in the reception room.
– No pets allowed.
– Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
– You must be physically able to make the climb and fit through a narrow opening.
– Persons with heart conditions or similar physical ailments, fear of heights or fear of tight spaces should not climb the tower.
