Located on Main Street in the eastern end of Mackinac Island’s historic downtown, Mission Church is Michigan’s oldest surviving church building. It is also the earliest surviving example of a New England Style church in the Midwest. Simple and elegant it was constructed by the island’s first Protestant congregation in 1830.

Weddings may be scheduled at Historic Mission Church from early May through October. Rental period is for two consecutive hours for decorating, rehearsal, wedding ceremony, pictures, and clean-up. We will attempt to accommodate rehearsal requests prior to your wedding day.
The church can accommodate up to 160 guests. The wedding party has access to the front room of the lower level, including a restroom, to prepare for the wedding. An electric keyboard is provided in the loft. The church bell may be rung as part of your service.
A Mackinac State Historic Parks representative will be available throughout the wedding. Historic Mission Church is a museum and has no resident or affiliated clergyman. You must make arrangements with clergy on your own.
Reservations should be made as soon as possible and at least 14 days in advance. They are made on a first come/first paid basis. Payment is required with application to hold the date.
— Historic Mission Church is Michigan’s oldest standing church building and a Michigan state historic site, and so has been carefully restored to its original appearance. Maintaining the condition of this treasured building is very important.
— This museum building is operated for the public by Mackinac State Historic Parks. It is open for public viewing from 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. from early summer to the end of the season. If you’d like to view the interior prior to your wedding and cannot visit it between these public hours, contact us for an appointment.
— The church is a historic structure, not currently accessible to people with disabilities. Please consider this limitation carefully when making your plans.
— If floral arrangements are part of your wedding decor, flowers may arrive no earlier than 45 minutes prior to ceremony time. If you have scheduled musicians, soloist and/or an organist they are to arrive no earlier than 45 minutes prior to ceremony time. If you are working with a wedding planner, be sure they are aware of this time frame.
— It is the responsibility of the wedding party to designate an individual to remove flowers, wedding decorations, and other items immediately following the ceremony. Otherwise the items will be removed and discarded by park staff one hour after the wedding. We are unable to store any items at Historic Mission Church before or after the ceremony.
— Maximum seating is 160 people.
— A unity candle is permitted.
— There are no lights in the church. There are five electrical outlets.
— The church is not heated or air conditioned.
— The antique organ located in the loft is part of the historical object collection and under no circumstances can be played.
— No pew bows. No tape or tacks of any type may be used to install decorations.
— No alcoholic beverages are permitted.
— No rice, birdseed, or similar material may be scattered inside or outside the church.

— Cancellation received in writing 61 days or more prior to reserved date – $500.00 refund for a Friday-Saturday wedding, $200.00 for a Sunday-Thursday wedding
— Cancellation received in writing 60-31 days prior to reserved dates – $275.00 refund for Friday-Saturday weddings, $100.00 for a Sunday-Thursday wedding
— Cancellations 30 days or less prior to reserved date are non-refundable.
