In this interactive painting demonstration and lecture Valade will explore the ancient mnemonic device of the “Memory Palace,” applied to Mackinac Island’s most iconic structure. Valade will demonstrate how he uses the architecture of the Grand Hotel to organize and recall history and personal stories, while creating a live painting that captures the visual essence of Mackinac.

The Mackinac State Historic Parks Artist-In-Residence Program is designed to promote and encourage the creation of artistic works inspired by the history, natural wonders, and beauty of Mackinac Island.
