Colonial Michilimackinac Open for the Day

10:00 a.m.
Bales, Barrels and Boxes: Supplying the Great Lakes Fur Trade Program
Trade items from all the world passed through the Straits of Mackinac in the 18th century. Get a close look at some of the merchandise passing through the area and learn about how business functioned at Michilimackinac during the fur trade era. Located at the Southwest Rowhouse. 

11:00 a.m.
Artillery Firing Program
Experience how soldiers in the British army used, trained, and practiced drill with the available artillery pieces at the fort, including a live firing! Located at the Artillery Platforms. 

12:00 p.m.
The Pleasures of the Table: Dining Culture at Michilimackinac Program
In this immersive program, you’re invited to sit down in a Merchant’s house and learn about what a household might eat during the 1700s at Michilimackinac. As part of a global economy, you might be surprised! Located in the Merchant’s House inside the Southwest Rowhouse.

12:30 p.m.
Musket Firing Demonstration
Learn how soldiers in the British army trained and practiced drill with their muskets, including a live weapons firing! Takes place on the Parade Ground.

See and hear how the growing conflict in 1776 affected the thriving fur trade community at Michilimackinac. Begins on the Parade Ground.

Slavery at the Straits Program
An in-depth discussion about how slavery developed over time, and how the experiences of enslaved people at the Straits reflect the complexities of slavery in the Great Lakes. Begins on the Parade Ground. 

3:30 p.m.
