Description

A point in the storm and a guiding beacon since 1889, Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse helped passing ships navigate through the treacherous waters of the Straits of Mackinac. Your visit includes the opportunity to climb to the top of the tower and, peruse the authentically restored quarters, view exhibits including a real lens, in addition to the new Straits of Mackinac Shipwreck Museum with a variety of original artifacts and audiovisual programs to tell the story of the numerous shipwrecks that dot the Straits of Mackinac.

To climb the tower of Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse, guests must be wearing securely fastened shoes and be at least four feet tall. The tower includes 51 steps up a spiral staircase, and an 11-rung ladder to get to the top. While all efforts will be made to include all eligible visitors on a trip up the tower, it is not guaranteed with admission.
