Historic Mill Creek Discovery Park Health and Safety Guidelines

We care about your health and safety.

We are very excited to welcome guests to Historic Mill Creek Discovery Park for the 2021 season. The health and safety of our visitors and staff is our primary concern. To ensure that everyone’s experience is enjoyable, all guests and staff must follow the following guidelines when visiting Mill Creek:

  • Please do not enter the site if you have been in close contact with a confirmed case of Covid-19, are experiencing a cough, shortness of breath, or sore throat right now, or have experienced symptoms such as a fever, lost of taste or smell, vomiting, diarrhea, or fever in the last 48 hours.
  • A face mask must be worn in all interior locations.
  • Please maintain a safe distance of at least six feet between your group and employees and other visitors near you.
  • Hand-sanitizing stations are located at key locations (see below). Please use them frequently.
  • Wash hands more frequently, avoid touching your face, and practice good respiratory etiquette including sneezing into your elbow.
  • The number of guests allowed inside some areas is limited (see below). Please follow guidelines posted at the entrance to each building.

Physical Distancing and Limited Contact: 

  • Please maintain at least six feet of distance between your group and staff or other groups.
  • Follow posted floor markings or signs to maintain safe social distance.
  • Plexiglass barriers have been installed at admissions and sales counters.
  • We encourage you to purchase tickets in advance – tickets are available here.
  • The use of credit or debit cards is highly encouraged for purchases made on site for the most contactless experience.

  • Treetop Discovery Tower

Building and Site Capacity/Guidelines:

David A. Armour Visitor’s Center

  • Capacity: 25
  • A mask is required within the Visitor’s Center.
  • Plexiglass barriers have been installed at the admissions counter.
  • The front door (facing the parking lot) is designated as entrance only.
  • Please follow the floor markings and signs to maintain a safe social distance of at least six feet.

Millwright’s House

  • Capacity: 10
  • A mask is required within the Millwright’s House.
  • Please maintain six feet social distance between your group and other groups or staff members.

Sawpit Demonstration

  • Seating has been arranged to allow for safe social distancing.
  • A mask is required if your group is within six feet of other groups or staff members.

Sawmill Demonstration

  • Please note that this building has a small viewing structure, and it may not be safe for more than 10 people to be present at a time.
  • A mask is required within the Sawmill.
  • Maintain six feet social distance between your group and other groups and staff members.

Treetop Discovery Tower and Hiking Trails

  • Remember to maintain six feet social distance between your group and other groups and staff.
  • If social distancing is impossible a mask is required.

Adventure Tour

  • Groups will be limited to 20 people.
  • One tour will take place per hour, beginning on the top of the hour. Tours start at 10:00 a.m., and tickets must be purchased inside the Visitor’s Center. Valid park admission is required to purchase an Adventure Tour ticket. Tickets are sold on a first come, first served basis.
  • Masks must be worn at all times during the tour by all participants. The Adventure Tour guide retains authority to refuse any visitor not wearing a mask.
  • The climbing wall at the Treetop Discovery Tower will not be available during the 2021 season.

Cleaning Schedule:

In addition to regular, frequent sanitizing of admissions and sales counters, exhibits, and restrooms, we have outlined a more detailed cleaning schedule for Historic Mill Creek Discovery Park.

David A. Armour Visitor’s Center

Members of the guest services staff will be equipped with cleaning supplies at their stations and will regularly sanitize their work station and surrounding area. In addition:

  • A complete cleaning/disinfecting will be completed by park janitorial staff daily prior to opening.
  • Common touch points disinfected every hour on top of regular cleaning. This includes doors, counters, handrails, credit card machines, etc.
  • Park Operations will conduct a more thorough disinfecting in the early afternoon.

Within the grounds

Members of the guest services staff and interpretive staff will be equipped with cleaning supplies and will have a regular cleaning schedule within the park grounds. In addition:

  • A complete cleaning/disinfecting will be completed by park janitorial staff daily prior to opening
  • Common touch points disinfected every hour on top of regular cleaning.
  • Picnic tables under the Pavilion will receive regular sanitizing.
  • Park Operations will conduct a more thorough disinfecting in the afternoon
  • Adventure Tour equipment will be sanitized after every use.

Restrooms

The primary restrooms for Historic Mill Creek Discovery Park are located just outside the Visitor’s Center doors at the Pavilion. There are two pit toilets located along the hiking trails. Push plates and door handles will additionally be sanitized during regular cleaning of the site. Where appropriate doors will be pinned open to limit contact. Cleaning is done by Park Operation janitorial staff
