Mackinac State Historic Parks turns 125 this year, and we were excited to host what would have been the 3rd annual Mackinac Island Fort2Fort Five Mile Challenge. But … COVID-19 had other plans. However, we are excited to host this year’s race as a virtual event! Funds raised from this event go directly to Mackinac State Historic Parks to support programs, exhibits, and park operation. It has been an extremely challenging year for Mackinac State Historic Parks, and this event provides needed support to the park at a crucial time.
You can run or walk your race whenever or wherever it is convenient for you. For those that have already planned on coming to Mackinac Island and still would like to do so, the map of the racecourse is posted under course maps. The course will be marked October 3, the “official” virtual race day, if you would like to run the actual course on your own. In the week leading up to virtual race day Mackinac State Historic Parks will share information about the sites you’ll see along the course on its Facebook page. Additionally, Mackinac State Historic Parks will livestream the Cannon Firing at 9:30 am on October 3rd for those that want to participate on the actual virtual race day, and will feature an official welcome from Mackinac State Historic Parks director Phil Porter.
We’d love to see where you’re running the event, whether you’re on the island or not! Please post your photos with the hashtag #Fort2Fort.
Registrations received by September 1 will have items mailed by September 25th. Registrations received after that date will be mailed two to three weeks after the virtual race day on October 3rd.
