Fort Mackinac Private Events

Fort Mackinac can be summed up in a single word: iconic. Fort Mackinac is an authentic Revolutionary War-era fort, built by the British, and has been standing guard over Mackinac Island for nearly 240 years. The fort can be rented out for private events after it closes to the public for the evening. Grand Hotel is the exclusive concessionaire at Fort Mackinac.

Types of Events

All events are expected to harmonize with the character, mission and public purpose of the site, such as dinners and receptions for convention and travel groups visiting Mackinac Island. Events celebrating birthdays, weddings, etc. are typically not permitted. Check with the Special Events Coordinator for more information on permissible events. In order to preserve the historical appearance of each site signs and decorations are restricted. Consult the Special Events Coordinator for more information.

Food and beverage service at Fort Mackinac is handled by our concessionaire, Grand Hotel. Contact the sales department at 906.847.3331 for menu information.

Hours

In the spring and fall months, Fort Mackinac is available for event set-up 15 minutes after closing to the public (typically 5:00 p.m.). In the summer months, events are permitted from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Event set-up preparation may begin after the 6:00 p.m. demonstration. No vendor or guest will be allowed to enter before that time. Guests may begin arriving any time after 7:00 p.m., and the event must conclude at 10:00 p.m. An additional hour after 10:00 p.m. in the summer months may be permitted; check the fee structure below and contact the Special Events Coordinator.

Guests are expected to arrive to the Avenue of Flags at Fort Mackinac, at the rear of the fort. This is the accessible entrance. An elevator is nearby.

Fort Mackinac Programs

All 14 historic structures at Fort Mackinac will remain open for guests. Two costumed historical interpreters will present a program highlighting the fort’s history which will include a rifle firing demonstration, as well as a cannon firing demonstration. The interpreters will also be available for questions at the start of the event and for roughly 30 minutes after the firearms demonstrations.

A 12-minute movie will be shown in the Fort Mackinac Commisary, and the Sutler’s Store at Fort Mackinac will also be open during the event. A children’s program and additional interpreters are available for an additional fee (see fee structure below).

Fee

A non-refundable $250 deposit must be made to secure Fort Mackinac for an evening event. Deposits can be made via check or credit card.

  • 0-99 guests $1,000
  • 100-199 guests $1,500
  • 200-299 guests $2,500
  • 300 or more guests $3,500
  • Additional Interpreter $175/hour/guide
  • Children’s Victorian Games $175
  • Tent rental and set-up $1,000 (tent can be placed outside the Avenue of Flags)
  • Additional hour charger after 10:00 p.m. $500

-All requests for the tent must be finalized the day prior to the event
-Groups booked through Grand Hotel can add open balances to their Grand Hotel master bill
-Final payment for groups not adding charges to a Grand Hotel master bill is due day of event.
