Historic Downtown by Candlelight Posted March 31, 2017 Stroll through downtown Mackinac Island by candlelight and meet characters from the island’s rich historic past. During the 1830s Mackinac Island’s fur trade was bustling with interesting people. Meet the Biddle family with strong family and community ties, workers of John Jacob Astor’s American Fur Company, and Henry Schoolcraft, Bureau of Indian Affairs Superintendent, among others. The tour will start at the Mackinac Island Visitor’s Center and concludes at the Biddle House. You will visit the Indian Dormitory (now The Richard and Jane Manoogian Mackinac Art Museum), McGulpin House, American Fur Company Store and Biddle House. The tour may also include possible stops at the Bark Chapel and Stuart House.
