SUMMARY:Hay Cutters & Summer Pasture
DESCRIPTION:This week\, special programs at Historic Mill Creek explore hay making at the Straits of Mackinac. Learn about wild wetland plants which fed the King’s cattle in 1781. See which tools were used to harvest “tame hay\,” and hay-making artifacts uncovered at Historic Mill Creek. You may leave humming the barley-mowers’ song\, with fresh appreciation of plants which thrive under the hot summer sun. #thisismackinac

SUMMARY:Artist-in-Residence Program with Composer Brad Sayles
DESCRIPTION:Composer Brad Sayles will focus on the art of audio capture for creating a sound scape encompassing music and effects…and more importantly how the two ultimately imitate and complement themselves. Sayles will plan to focus on the sounds of the island and show how they not only create an environmental perspective\, but also create a musical composition. This presentation would involve playing sound segments individually\, then altered and edited creating rhythm and melody. Sayles will conclude with the addition of mocked up instruments to combine with the sounds to create the final composition. This program will take place in the Station 256 Conference Room\, located above the Mackinac Island State Park Visitor’s Center. Admission is free.
