Special Events at Historic Downtown |
Historic DowntownBefore its rise as a premier tourist destination, Mackinac Island was a hub of the intercontinental fur trade that started in the 17th century and extended into the early 19th century. Here is where John Jacob Astor reestablished his American Fur Company after the War of 1812, which aided him greatly in becoming America's first millionaire. A ticket to Fort Mackinac gains you access to these buildings for free from June 7 - August 23. Or you may purchase a separate Historic Downtown pass. Whichever you choose, you'll enjoy a mix of fascinating history, interactive displays, and memorable demonstrations by our interpretive staff. Pets are welcome. 01/04/2008 Mackinac State Historic Parks Awarded Re-accreditation by the American Association of Museums 11/13/2007 Mackinac Island Named One of Top Sustainable Tourism Destinations Due to Preservation Efforts Archives |
