Marketing and Public Relations Intern Department: Museum Programs and Marketing Location: Mackinac Island Start Date/ End Date: 12 consecutive weeks. SCOPE OF DUTIES: The public relations and marketing intern is responsible for assisting the public relations and marketing officer in a variety of activities, including writing and designing the bi-weekly employee newsletter (The Current), and all aspects of producing a news release, including interviewing sources, writing, and editing, and promoting special events. 1. Employee Newsletter Interview sources, write copy, and use Adobe InDesign to create two-page, bi-weekly employee newsletter. Coordinate the distribution of The Current to employees. 2. Writing News Releases Interview sources, write, and edit press releases for a variety of subjects. 3. Promoting Special Events Assist in promoting special events, including flyer distribution, website entry (if comfortable with this), communication with radio stations, writing and distributing press releases, researching websites (event, news, and radio) in which to post the event, etc. New promotional ideas and opportunities are welcome! 4. Photography (If applicable) If comfortable and experienced with photography, the intern will also take photos for The Current, other promotional material, and for our photo database. 5. Website and Social Media Maintenance (If applicable) If intern is comfortable and experienced with website maintenance, the intern will also periodically assist updates to MackinacParks.com and various social media outlets. The workstation for this position is the Post Hospital Administration Office on Mackinac Island although the employee may be asked to work at other MSHP park sites as required. This position will generally work 12 weeks starting in early June working through late August, although may be able to work mid May through early October, and is scheduled to work 32 hours per week (approximately four days per week). The intern may be required to work evenings, holidays and/or weekends. HOUSING AND STIPEND: This is an unpaid internship, but MSHP will offer a $1,000 stipend upon successful completion of internship. Free Housing on Mackinac Island to the selected individual in return for 32 hours per week of internship duties. Housing is dormitory-style with kitchen facilities available. We will also attempt to help to find a paid position in the area, possibly with MSHP, to assist with spending money.
