Internships
We provide internships for those interested in working in a professional museum environment. The following internships are unpaid, but do have some benefits that may help the intern minimize costs. Interns have to work a minimum of 32 hours per week to be eligible for free housing. We may be able to help find parttime paid work within Mackinac State Historic Parks to help with costs.

Volunteers
Mackinac State Historic Parks encourges the involvement of volunteers throughout our programs. Families, individuals and couples who have an interest in historic, natural or non-profit activities have grown in their understanding what we provide for the public who visit our sites and the people of the state of Michigan. All volunteering opportunities must be scheduled well in advance for proper training and scheduling can occur.
Seasonal Positions - Parts of these positions may be volunteers duties at certain sites.
These positions volunteer for free housing:
Housing Manager
Mackinac Island
Housing Manager
Mackinaw City
Participation of Minors
Minors need consent from their guardians and guardians may have to stay on site with minors of a certain age. Certain duties cannot be executed (working with gunpowder, some blacksmithing and axe presentations) by minors.
Volunteer Housing
Housing is very limited and we prefer volunteers who reside in the area or are able to provide their own housing. If housing is required we will make every attempt to accommodate you, but we may not be able to fulfill housing requests. Volunteers have often used campgrounds and hotels in the area in the past.
Volunteer Recognition
We proudly recognize the valuable assistance of our volunteers by rewarding them for their donation of time and expertise. All hours volunteered during the time frame of October 1st through September 30th of the following year will be calculated to determine the level of recognition. Volunteers who provide their time and meet the hours requirement will be recognized in October or November.
